MISSION & VALUES
We Take Care of Our People and Partners
Respect, open doors, and showing up for each other, in good times and bad. We communicate the good news and the bad, on the same timeline.
We Act with Integrity
We tell the truth, honor our promises, own our mistakes, and pay our bills, even when a softer version would be easier to hear.
We Strive for Extraordinary
High expectations, real execution, smart risks, and rewarding excellence, we focus on execution over talk.
Kaufman & Company is a private investment and holding firm built to do one thing well: build enduring businesses. In the more than 25 years since Daniel Kaufman launched his first real estate development company (following an earlier start flipping homes in Detroit in 1992), this practitioner-led approach, grounded in ground-level deal experience rather than theory, has directed over $2 billion in property investments and the financing or development of more than 10,000 units across all asset classes, including 1,100 hotel rooms.
Daniel Kaufman
A builder, problem solver, and visionary leader who began his real estate career in Detroit in 1992, flipping homes, and went on to launch his first real estate development company 25+ years ago. Since then, he has overseen $2B+ in project value and 10,000+ units across all asset classes, from affordable, mixed-income, and market-rate communities to 1,100+ hotel rooms nationwide, working across the Mountain West, Texas, Florida, Vermont, and the Northeast.
These figures represent Daniel Kaufman's full career track record, not solely work completed under today's unified Kaufman & Company platform, and reflect current assets under management as of October 2026.
“You don’t need another opinion. You need someone who’s done it.”
“The number I care most about is not project value or units delivered. It is how many of the people I have done business with would work with me again.”

In September 2026, the company deployed a team to Orlando to acquire land and distressed assets directly, using the family office’s own capital rather than outside funds, extending DK Homes and Design Build Affordable’s Florida pipeline. That same month, Daniel launched Mountain Watch, a free public tracker of land and housing conditions in ski resort towns, built to support the mountain-resort investment thesis he has been developing as Vail Resorts faces a shareholder proxy fight over how the industry treats the towns it depends on.
Daniel also writes a regular column, published through InsiderFinance Wire, Medium, and the U.S. Real Estate Journal’s Perspectives section, on where the real estate cycle actually stands, from converting downtown office stock into compute facilities to why multifamily permitting is bottoming out and what AI-driven data-center demand means for development underwriting. He is a frequent speaker at family office and real estate investment conferences, including the Milken Institute Global Conference, IMN Build-to-Rent, and the Global Family Office Investment Summit, and hosts The Kaufman Report, a podcast on development and workforce housing.
